SLOG 3 - CSC104 - COMPLETED DEC. 3.
Slog 3
For all the new students that may
read about my blog, I have some advice for you before you start the course. This
course is all about using functions to produce on a screen that you may have in
mind, it could be a cool video, a well patterned image or maybe you just want
to play around with some coding.
To design a function, do not just
rush in and start typing. First you should plan out how your entire thing will
look like and think about all the mini steps you will need to complete the
function and arrange them in order. Order is very important in computer
science, it may totally change the result of your desired final product.
Second of all I want to talk about
how to prepare for this course and get a well-deserved 4.0 GPA to this course. For
weekly quizzes, going through the professor’s lectures notes and listening to
recordings are very important. I’m taking this course right now with three
different teachers. Sometimes the explanation of one teacher might be confusing
so you can try to look at the lecture notes or recordings of the other two
teacher. I have done this a couple of times and its really helpful. The teachers
will always post quiz exercises a couple of days ahead of time and make sure
you understand every question in the exercise. This will guarantee you will get
a solid 3/3 on the weekly quiz.
For the projects, there are two. Make
sure you to work ahead of time. The TAs usually post them two weeks ahead of
time and make sure you start right away! The project should be done in the
order the list is given in.
For the term tests, the TAs post
past midterms and they are very helpful. The questions are given in the same
format, so if you understand the past midterms then you are good to go for your
midterm. They usually post a couple of past test, so make sure you do them all
to get a variety of questions done.
The last thing I want to mention is,
I find the TAs in this course are very diligent and have frequent office hours
to help students out. You can ask them to advice you for almost any question
that are related to the test, quiz and project. I went to the TAs office hour
for project 1 and they solved a huge issue I was having.
This course is very fun and there
are challenging moments, but working hard and by passing those challenges makes
me feel proud. I am really glad I took this course. And I hope you guys have
fun and do well in the upcoming years.
